The restoration of one of the most versatile examples of architecture in the Park, which has maintained the original style and colours of the building whilst providing a new space dedicated to the Villa’s various cultural events.
The Stables are located on the east wing of the Clock House building, within the estate of Villa Reale in Marlia.
The significant restoration works were commissioned by the owners of Villa Reale, Henric and Marina Grönberg, to open this wonderful space to the public.
The large, main reception room (originally used as stables for horses and for keeping sheep) has been made into an open space for hosting events in Villa Reale’s calender.
Of particular interest is the striking blue colour. Special care has been taken during restoration to bring the walls back to their former glory.
A curious fact: on the past, the Stables provided the magnificent backdrop to scenes from the film “Portrait of a Lady” starring Nicole Kidman.
Planned future restoration works
The original doors and windows will be restored, maintaining the original style. A system of air conditioning and ventilation will be installed, integrating the units into furniture so as not to disturb the aesthetic impact. Automated wooden window shutters will also be installed, allowing the light levels to be adjusted in line with the requisites of each event.
The North-Eastern area of the Stables building will house technical systems and equipment, and the part facing the courtyard will house the entrance to the main area and the toilets. The large room in the corner will have a mezzanine level for the air conditioning units, connected to three existing openings in the walls. This upgrade is necessary to adhere to legislation and air quality standards, and to render the space suitable for events.
